From October 22 to 25, AIPPI will hold its 2023 World Congress, in Istanbul, Turkey. This year, Simoes Intellectual Property will be represented at the event by Managing Partner, Igor Simoes, and one of its Patent Specialists, Julia Sandes.

BRPTO'S NEW TECHNOLOGICAL RADAR ADDRESSES 5G TECHNOLOGY IN BRAZIL AND IN THE WORLD
On July 20, the BRPTO released a new Technological Radar (Radar Tecnológico), which brings an overview of the 5G technology development based on patent applications around the world, and some data about Brazil’s panorama on patent filings in this technological field.

FEDERAL OFFICIAL GAZETTE PUBLISHES THE APPOINTMENT OF BRPTO’S PRESIDENT AND DIRECTORS
On July 20, the Federal Official Gazette published the appointment of the president and directors of the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO).
Júlio César Moreira, who had been acting on an interim basis since January 2023, was officially named the BRPTO's president.

BRPTO PUBLISHES ORDINANCES RELATED TO TECHNOLOGY TRANSFERS AND OTHER AGREEMENTS
On July 11, 2023, the Brazilian Patent and Trademark Office (BRPTO) published Ordinances No. 26/2023 and 27/2023.
Ordinance No. 26/2023 provides the administrative procedure for the recordal of licenses and assignment deeds of industrial property rights and registration of technology transfer and franchise agreements. Ordinance No. 27/2023 provides the guidelines of the examination for the recordal of licenses of industrial property rights and registration of integrated circuit topography, technology transfer and franchise.

NO MORE PPHS IN 2023
The Brazilian PTO informed that the limit of Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) requests in 2023 has been reached for patent applications from all areas of technology.
Applicants will only be able to request new PPHs at the beginning of the new cycle, in 2024.
There are, however, other forms of expediting examination in Brazil.
